 MARBLE AND WOOD

Wood and marble floors are beautiful, enduring and never go out of style. Let’s start with the easier of the two, marble. Many people agonize over how to maintain their marble floors. They are so expensive and can be quickly ruined by using the wrong cleaning product or method. My technicians are equipped with a special vacuum that is safe and effective to pass over marble without scratching it thus removing all dust, dirt, hair, etc. We then use a lightly damp mop to remove stains, grime, food matter, etc. I have tried many “specialty” products for the mop water but have found that a couple drops of dishwashing soap does a fine job. Many of my customers have a professional floor service come in periodically to buff the marble and restore the brilliance. This will be necessary no matter how carefully you maintain the floor.

Wood floors are my favorite to maintain. With the right method they can easily be cleaned and be made to look beautiful. Again, the major concern here is to not scratch the wood or use the wrong cleaning product. As with the marble, applying the wrong liquid can destroy the finish. My technicians would use our special floor vacuum first. You may have a central vacuum system with the soft brush head. Never use a hard nozzle or regular carpet vacuum on these floors. They will scratch and you will be sorry. In some homes we use the lightly damp mop with a touch of dishwashing soap or Murphy’s wood soap to mop the floor. In other homes we prefer to use the hardwood floor mop. This is a flat terrycloth mop that buffs the floor. You will need a spray cleaner to apply directly to the floor (Bona hardwood cleaner is one of the best) and then pass the floor mop over the area that you are cleaning. The drawback to these mops is that because they are square and flat, they cannot maneuver behind furniture or into corners.
